STORY CONCEPTS

There’s always a new great idea, just waiting to be brought to the screen. You know how it is. Well, we’re no different.

There are a variety of concepts at various stages of development set in the Esotera universe, and no shortage of inspiration. Curious about one of these ideas? Feel free to reach out to talk about it and where we are at in the process.

“ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE”

The Story:

Jacob Fullson, a tech scavenger in the post-Flare wasteland, is ambushed in his home by thugs. Barely escaping with his life and losing all of his possessions, he must discover an unexpected ally and complete a dangerous scavenging job in order to bounce back.

Filming currently in progress.

“BROKEN”

The Story:

It’s the year 2087. A young man, designated 'Miner IX-24', was bred for slavery and knows nothing of life outside the camp. When he is thrust into a new world and circumstances beyond his control, how will he exercise his free will? Will he succumb to his fate, or can he break from his pre-determined mold?

Backstory:

A slaver organization select children with ideal genetics for a special medical treatment. The slavers implant the children with devices that modify their body chemistry.

These children are now ideal for mining an especially precious material. They are modified for the singular purpose of collecting an extremely energy-dense mineral used for energy storage (batteries), making them able to bear the toxic particles of the mineral, unlike most humans, which experience detrimental effects from skin absorption and breathing of the material.

As with all his kind, one child, designated ‘Miner IX-24’, is treated as an animal of labor, though his ability to tolerate the mines makes him and his brothers prized possessions, so they’re well-cared enough to do the work required. As these slaves become men and mature into the ability for adult reasoning, they become a greater threat to the peaceful operation of the mines and its trade secrets.

After 10 years of service, Miner IX-24 is scheduled for disposal. Brought up in a cult-like environment, the children are raised to believe that those who disappear are taken to a better place. IX-24 never learns the truth, but desiring the freedom of the world above, he and the others find a way to break out to the surface--but it’s nothing like they’d thought.

Behind the Scenes:

This film was originally designed to be shot without any dialogue whatsoever and to be shot without the use of much camera movement.

The reason for this is that the film was going to be shot on an old 16mm film camera that didn't lend itself well to either camera movement as part of the shots, and its loud whirring would make recording sound difficult - hence the lack of dialogue.

Instead, we ended up shooting the film "Destination" using the above methods.

“SCAVENGER”

The Story:

Haunted by memories of a family he could not protect, Jacob Fullson is a loner in a post-apocalyptic world. He scavenges for survival alone until one day, an escaped slave boy drops into his life and Jacob must decide what truly matters in a world where love can cost everything.

Backstory:

Jacob Fullson is one of few experts in the wasteland with intimate knowledge of technology. He's valued for his skill at repair and identifying valuable salvage. Subsequently, he's constantly running around the remains of Arizona, fighting to get to society's old technology before the competition.

His trusty Artificial Intelligence - AMIRA - acts as a counterbalance to his often reckless decision-making and keeps him company.

Behind the Scenes:

Jacob is the same character as the main character in film “Artificial Intelligence”. In “Artificial Intelligence”, Jacob meets Amira and becomes allied with her, leading to a fruitful partnership in future stories.
